Camp Sites
Telephone calls from the United Kingdom to the Isle of Man are prefixed with 01624.
International telephone calls to the Isle of Man are prefixed with + 44 1624 (where + is the international prefix which varies from country to country).
On all camp sites there is no wood, living or dead, for burning or gadgets unless the landowner gives permission. Wood slivers (known as 'Scout wood') may be purchased from the saw mill. Apply to the Isle of Man Government, Department of Forestry, St. Johns, Douglas, Isle of Man.
Open sites allow fires and all sites have a water supply.

A 6½ acre field suitable for large camping groups. Facilities on site include toilets, showers and leaders meeting room in the log cabin. Good kitchen facilities. Wet weather accommodation available. Tents may be hired. Field for activities. Close to Ramsey town centre and woods. Easy access to moors and hills. Site is operated by The Open Gate Trust, a Manx Christian charity.

Small HQ ideal for Cubs or Scouts. Not suitable for mixed groups. Kitchen, toilets and small leaders room. Adjacent to Sulby River (tidal) and close to town centre, beach and Mooragh Park. Good bus and tram services nearby.

An outdoor activity centre in converted farm buildings. Residential activity courses and day adventure courses. Suitable for Scouts and older Cubs. Activities include canoeing, archery, abseiling, air rifle shooting, climbing, assault course, sailing and raft building. Close to the Manx Electric Railway (Lewaigue Halt). Bus stop for Ramsey, Laxey and Douglas bus approximately 1km.

Although primarily a camping site, the large log cabin would accommodate a small group (not mixed) in one room. Kitchen facilities, toilets and showers. Large covered veranda front and rear. Card phone (Manx Telecom cards only). See also entry under Camp Sites.
Bunkhouses:
A few Scout Groups on the Island have bunkhouses suitable for small groups, particularly for overnight expedition stays. These are generally situated in remote areas and have very basic facilities. Enquiries should be made to the appropriate Group Scout Leader.

2. 2nd. Onchan Bunkhouse, South Barrule Plantation.

Watertrough Cottage is situated in the large plantation close to the Foxdale to Port Erin Road. Easy access to South Barrule and the southern moors. One large room, with a small kitchen area, three tiered sleeping platforms, which will sleep about 15. Area outside for hike tents.
3. 3rd. Peel Bunkhouse, Dalby Village.

A two room cottage set in a long narrow garden in the centre of the village almost opposite the road to Niarbyl. Small kitchen and eating facilities. Bunk beds. The cottage is situated on the Millennium Way with excellent coastal walks.
Isle of Man Youth and Community Service:
The following establishments are run by the Isle of Man Government's Department of Education, Youth and Community Service. They are suitable for Manx groups after a preparatory visit by the group leader has been made with the warden.
1. Ardwhallin Outdoor Pursuits Centre, West Baldwin.

Self-catering residential centre for outdoor activities, including orienteering and hiking. Easy access to the moors and hills. Close to Injebreck Reservoir and Colden Plantation. Ideal for weekend activities and pursuing the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
2. Eary Cushlin Youth Adventure Centre, near Dalby.

A remote self-catering house suitable for small groups. Camp beds. Located above the western coastal cliffs not far from Cronk-ny-Arrey-Laa. Area suitable for hiking and other activities. Close to Kerroodhoo and Slieau Mooar Plantations. The area is exposed and the weather can be severe at times.
3. Bishopscourt Glen Cottage, Kirk Michael.
A basic single room shelter with no luxuries, situated on the west coast about a mile north of Kirk Michael. May be suitable for overnight stay by small expedition groups.
Standing Orders
1. This Association has no transport for hire but has limited camping equipment which, if available, may be hired. Apply to the Island Quartermaster.
2. This Association does not negotiate terms with landowners. These are agreed between the landowner and the leader.
3. P.C. forms must be sent to the CAMP SITE SECRETARY not later than 28 days before the camp. Note: This form is also a requirement of MANX LAW. Programme of activities must be included, together with a cheque to cover the administration fee, as detailed on the PC form. Cheques to be made payable to 'The Scout Association - Isle of Man'.
4. An addressed envelope is always welcome but please leave it UNSTAMPED as only MANX stamps are valid on the Island.
5. Use only sites taken from the Scout Camp Site list. Local Authority sites are NOT TO BE USED.
6. Wood for fires must not be cut on site. Wood for burning and gadgets can be obtained from the Isle of Man Government, Forestry Department at St. Johns. Write for prices, quantities and delivery details. Cash with order. Pioneering timber can be supplied, if requested.
7. Details of sailings to and from the Isle of Man can be obtained from the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Limited, Sea Terminal, Douglas.
8. All hikes and expeditions onto the moors, hills and mountain must be properly supervised in accordance with the Scout Activity Authorisation Scheme. See P.O.R. Chapter 10. Copies of completed Route Plans should be sent to the Assistant Island Commissioner (Scouts).
9. All water activities must be supervised in accordance with the Activity Authorisation Scheme. See P.O.R. Chapter 10. Canoes and boats must have a valid boat certificate.
10. No tents may be erected on Manx National Trust land. When on over-night hikes, consult the O.S. map for these areas. If in doubt, seek local advice.
11. Consult your landowner about disposal of rubbish. Burn as much as you can. There is a Civic Amenity Area at the Point of Ayre (Ballacallow) where skips for rubbish are available. Most towns and villages have bottle recycling points.
12. FIREARMS or AIR PISTOLS MUST NOT be brought to, or obtained on, the Island. This also applies to CATAPULTS. Be strict over the use of knives, saws and axes. See also P.O.R. No knives to be carried off site.
13. Never change gas cylinders in enclosed spaces. Pitch store tents away from sleeping and kitchen areas. Pay particular attention to hygiene and the storage and preparation of food.
14. Water courses, streams and rivers must not be contaminated. It is advisable to boil all water taken from streams, etc.
15. At all times, observe and obey the Country and Highway Codes.
16. Lorries: Scouts must not travel in the back of lorries. The carrier must be properly insured for Scouts to travel in the cab. Manx Law will apply to all lorries on the Island's roads.
Coaches: Many of the Island's roads are inaccessible to large buses and coaches. Check itinerary before making arrangements for travel.
