The regular gathering of the ‘Wolf Pack’ at MullinDSCF0247┬ány┬áCarty saw the Island’s resident expert at knife craft and fire starting James Sandell passing on his skills to the Explorers.

Amongst other things they were shown the correct way to pass a knife to someone, how to use a flint and steel, using a knife to cut wood, making a fire bundle, making a feather stick and a host of other essentials for getting your fire going.

The Explorers were most attentive as they will be taking part in a 3 day survival camp in August where they will have a chance to use their new found skills. The ability to start a fire means the difference between being warm and able to make a hot meal or being cold and hungry. In extremes of climate this can mean the difference between life and death.

New member to the ‘Pack’ Willa was especially pleased after mastering the use of a fire steel having never used one before.
