If you’re not attending the National #YouShape event on Saturday watch the live stream to catch up on what’s going on, and to understand what Young People are passionate about in Scouting in the UK in 2016. This may help you in your lines of work. Young people will also be making pledges at the event on what they will go back and do in their local areas to improved Youth Shaped Scouting.
What is YouShape?
YouShape is a platform to empower young people to shape their Scouting at a national and local level. Youth Shaped Scouting isn’t a new concept; empowering young people to decide, design and implement their own programme and experiences is what Scouting really does well but we do want to ensure that this continues and is embedded in all that the movement provides.
Activities such as youth forums can be a great way of empowering young people, improving the Scouting experience, learning new skills and ensuring we are all working in partnership. It’s up to you how you get involved…spend from 10 minutes at your weekly Beaver meeting to a whole weekend at a county youth forum and wear your YouShape badge with pride. You can order them here.
Hannah (the UK Youth Commissioner) , Jay and Jagz (the Deputy UK Youth Commissioners) will be using the outcomes of YouShape week and the national event to influence UK Scouting – however the programme (particularly of the national event) has been designed in a way that it will not add any further pressure or workload to current lines of work nationally. They have tried to fit it in with current project remits, allowing more opportunity to consult and create ideas with young people, whilst also giving young people the tools to innovate and influence change on a local level through skills sessions woven into the programme sessions.
