On Sunday 29th November the annual Beaver Scouts’ five aside football competition was held. Beaver Scouts from Ballaugh, 1st Douglas Buggane and Loaghtan, Marown, Onchan Tuesday and Thursday, Rushen and Santon took part.
The teams were split into two leagues with each team playing all the others. This year the competition was at a new venue, the Tommy Clucas Sports Hall in Peel. Because of the size of the hall it was possible to run two games at a time and so we were able to hold more games and therefore the teams played each other twice. There were some very exciting games and although many goals were scored several of the goalkeepers kept the scores down by making some fantastic saves. The winner in each league qualified for the final.
Onchan Tuesday were top of their league and went on to play Onchan Thursday ‘Bulls’, who had topped their league, in the final.
In the final, both teams played brilliantly and at full time the score was 0 – 0. The game therefore went to extra time during which Onchan Thursday ‘Bulls’ scored the winning goal. All the Beavers in the final were awarded medals which were presented by The Island Commissioner, Guy Thompson. He also presented the winners shield and a replica trophy to Onchan Thursday ‘Bulls’ and a runners up trophy to Onchan Tuesday.
