On Saturday 01/11/14 – Sunday 02/11/14 Scouts from 1st Ballaugh, 3rd Peel Sea Scouts, 3rd Castletown and 1st Malew Tuesday bravely undertook their Expedition Challenge badge. The purpose of the journey being a circular route from Fenella beach to Mullin ny Carty back to Fenella beach taking in Letterboxes and using no paths/roads twice.
A beautiful start to the day on Saturday turned foul and despite horizontal rain as the Scouts descended South Barrule their spirits were high in the knowledge they had the option to use the new indoor facilities at Mullin ny Carty. Although very basic, a heated room was ideal for drying out, warming up and some down time playing cards and Top Trumps before preparing a tea of chicken curry and rice followed by sponge and custard.
A big thank you to Jay and Lissy for providing a DVD player (good old Shrek – a classic at any age) and a much needed ego booster to complete Saturday’s journey saw the young people asleep by 10:30 pm.
Sunday morning saw much better weather and having planned a route back to Peel and making their own breakfast and packed lunch they set out in good spirits and crossed territory of all domains. Highlight of the day was Harry (3rd Castletown) losing his shoe in the bog at Grenaby and being chased by the geese at Peel!
It was lovely to see four of the smaller Scout Troops together and l hope it is the first of many joint activities.
Well done all and to the leaders involved a big thank you!Tags: Scouts, 1st Ballaugh, 1st Malew, 3rd Castletown, 3rd Peel Sea Scouts, Expedition Challenge badge
