 This is a hiking challenge for all Island Scouts and Explorer Scouts (Leaders welcome too). The aim is to walk around the Isle of Man's longest footpath the Raad ny Foillan (Road of the Gull) which is 95 miles and follows the coast of the Island. The hike will be split into six sections which will each be between 13 and 17.5 miles long. The intention is that each section will be completed during a particular month as shown below. Please refer to the above Maps as rough guides only to the footpath. Hikers should follow the routes as shown on both the actual footpath as indicated the 'Raad Ny Foillan' Sign Posts and the footpath as shown on the OS 1:50,000 Map of the Isle of Man.

There will be a particular Sunday of each month designated to hike that Section, so that hikers can be checked in and out. If a group of Scouts or Explorer Scouts are unable to make that Sunday, then they may complete the Section on any other day in the month as long as the organisers are notified in advance and their Leader completes the 'completion form' that will be available to download off this web page.
All those who complete the Raad ny Foillan Challenge will be presented with a specially made embroidered badge in the shape of the Isle of Man, as shown on the right. They should work with most hand held and computer based GPS Systems which can use GPX files. You can find out more about the GPX File Format here.
