20 Scouts form Chiba near Tokyo in Japan stayed with local families on the Isle of Man, after attending the 2007 World Scout Jamboree in Essex. The Japanese Scouts were joined by 6 Scouts from Dubai. The Dubai Scouts had completed the Three Legs Challenge while camping for two weeks on the Island.

The Scouts from Dubai and Japan all enjoyed fantastic views on reaching the top of Snaefell on the Mountain Railway.

Tony East, opened his private bike museum in, Kirk Michael, for the Scouts to visit and gave one lucky Scout a ride in his sidecar.

The Japanese Scouts all enjoyed a trip on the steam train (not quite as fast as the 'Bullet Train')

SUNRISE CEREMONY 1st AUGUST 2007

The date 1st August was selected from one of the days that Baden Powell held his experimental camp on Brownsea Island, Poole Harbour back in 1907 and therefore was to be celebrated worldwide as the date when scouting began. All around the world a short Sunrise ceremony was held at 8am local time. In the Isle of Man this took place on Douglas Promenade at the end of the sunken gardens. Around 70 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts attended along with parents and grandparents. Scout and Guide leaders were also present as were several men who had been involved in scouting in their youth. The lads had travelled from different parts of the island to be present for the early start. A cooked breakfast bap was provided free of charge for all present by the Sefton Hotel through their outside catering wing. Several scouts were however off the island camping close to the World Jamboree where the 10 official representatives of the Island were taking part. They also took part in Sunrise Ceremonies. Tom Thomson, a former Queen's Scout from Liverpool managed to capture the early morning sun in his photograph.

The Isle of Man Scouts who are attending the 2007 World Scout Jamboree, spent a weekend near Kendal with the rest of our Cumbria & Isle of Man Unit. It was a weekend of information, team building and fun. This photo shows one of the many silly games that were played over the two days.
