Alan Bruce was a member of the 1st King William's Troop during his time at college. He was patrol leader of the Wolves Patrol and subsequently Troop leader. He was a young member of the Island Contingent that went to the 1937 World Jamboree at Vogelenzang in Holland when 27,000 Scouts from 51 countries attended. This was the last Jamboree to be attended by Baden Powell. In 1941 he became a King's Scout and at 84 is now probably the oldest former King Scout who gained their award with an Island troop.
